Why use drupal

Recently a client asked me to write an introduction that he could present to his business partners about myself and why I use drupal. Sanitized text of my response is below.

I appreciate the opportunity to share a little about what I do and how I can help your organization.

I've been building websites and web applications in a variety of platforms and languages since 1995. About 2 years ago, I decided to focus my practice exclusively on development efforts for the Drupal content management framework. I made this choice because I feel it provides such a great launchpad for building robust online applications.

And I'm not alone.

Drupal has been used in mission critical deployments for Fortune 100 companies, local and national political campaigns, community groups, small businesses websites and personal pet projects.

You may have heard that whitehouse.gov recently made the switch to Drupal. A rather extensive list of sites built on Drupal can be found on http://buytaert.net/tag/drupal-sites

Because of the modular nature of the framework, as well as the active developer community, much of the functionality that you would need for any website is already built out, its just a matter of grabbing the appropriate modules and configuring them to meet your specific needs.

In fact a few weekends back at the Tacoma Startup Weekend organized by Andrew Fry, we were able to build out a working prototype for a website in just a few hours. While still a little rough around the edges, it gives you an idea of how powerful and efficient the Drupal framework is.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to discussing this further in the near future.
